Helen Joyce Spicer Johnson, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2019 in Huntsville Alabama. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 29th, 2019 at 1:00 pm at St Paul United Methodist Church, Reverend Sheree Elliot will officiate. Pallbearers will be Paul Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Brian Hunt, Matt Agee, Adam Burns and Steve Rauseo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Johnson and Robert Johnson.
She was born on May 27, 1929 in Sawyer, Kansas to Chester and Esther Spicer.
She worked at Huntsville’s Woolworths Department Store in the toy department until it’s closing. She was affectionately known by a lot of the children that came there as “The Toy Lady”. She was a member at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
For several years, after she retired, she found great pleasure working in the Food Pantry at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy in life was her family and her church.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years David Johnson; parents Chester and Esther Spicer; daughter Carol Hunt; sister Marjorie Hoener; and brother Robert E. Spicer.
She is survived by sons; Robert Johnson and his wife Cinda and Mark Johnson and his wife Deborah; grandchildren Janet, Brian, Katherine, Paul, Robert, Jonathan and Christopher; 16 great-grandchildren; brother in law Ross Hoener; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until funeral begins at 1:00 P.M. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 3250 Dunn St SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. Burial will follow funeral services at Maple Hill Cemetery, 202 Maple Hill St SE, Huntsville, AL 35801. Care of Mrs. Johnson is entrusted to Hampton Cove Funeral Home and Crematory.
