Walter Tripp Obituary

Walter Fearel Tripp, 96, passed away Thursday August 15th, 2019 at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville.  Funeral Services will be held Monday August 19th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hampton Cove Funeral Home in Hampton Cove, AL.  His beloved grandson Brother Aaron Youngblood will officiate.  Burial will follow immediately afterwards at Hampton Cove Cemetery with military honors.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents Walter Lawrence and Lora Mae Tripp; his 3 loving wives Mary Judith Lang Tripp, Lucille Davis Tripp and Joyce Harris Tripp; his daughter Salora Juanita Tripp; his son Fearel Wayne Tripp; grandson Gary David Tripp II; and his 2 sisters Estelle Jennings and Helen Dewey Sanders.

Mr. Tripp was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee and enjoyed living life there until duty called.  He joined the Army during World War II and served in Luzon Philippines.  He was a machine gunner and earned the title of sharpshooter during the war.  He was honorably discharged after earning the following medals and honors:  World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and one Bronze Service Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and One Bronze Star.

After the war, Mr. Tripp married his first wife and moved to Alabama, where he lived 72 years.  He was a self-proclaimed “Hillbilly” who could build just about anything with his hands.  In the 1950’s, he built his own rock house and lived there until he passed.  Walter was just a good old country boy who enjoyed gardening up until he was 89 years old.  He could grow anything because he was lucky enough to have a green thumb.  Walter was even a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps where he enjoyed planting trees.

He enjoyed working as a cabinet maker until he retired, but he still did wood working for his family until he was in his 70s.  His family loved to be recipients of the wonderful creations he could build.

Walter is survived by his sons Mickey Lee Tripp (Ramona) of Somerville, AL; Gary David Tripp (Chris) of Somerville, AL; and Jerry Richard Tripp of Huntsville, AL; his daughters Linda Sue Hamlin of Taft, TN; Bettie Marie Everett of Huntsville, AL ; Donnia Gayle Tripp of Huntsville, AL; Pamela Tripp Kianpour of Douglasville, GA; and Michelle Rene Youngblood (Jason) of Athens, AL; grandchildren Brandy, Pete, Brent, step-grandson Chris, Angela, Daniel, Christopher, Terri, Alicia, Jason, Laila, Tufon, Seth, Abbi,  Adam, Dustin, Tiffany, Dillan, Casey, Colton, Taylor Judith, Ariel, Alena, Andra and Aaron; and over 20 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Monday immediately preceding the service at Hampton Cove Funeral Home.
