On Monday, October 18, 2021, Danuta Michalska Limanowski, loving wife, mother, and friend passed away at the age of 92 surrounded by family. Danuta was born on November 11, 1928 in Novogrudek, Poland. She was a resident of Huntsville, AL for over 47 years and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Her faith was of great importance to her and helped her through so many difficult times in her life.
Danuta and her family were forced to leave Poland in 1939 as refugees of WWII, being sent to a working camp in Siberia, Russia. Eventually her family was able to leave Siberia and made their way to a Polish camp in India where they lived for several years. She and her sister attended a Polish school, while her mother worked as a nurse in the hospital and her brother joined the Polish army. After the war, the family made their way to England where she finished school and began working. It was in London, that she met and married Jozef Limanowski on 9/22/1956. In 1957, Danuta and Jozef immigrated to the United States. First in Chicago, IL, then Glasgow, KY before settling in Huntsville, AL in 1974.
Danuta worked many years for Montgomery Ward. First in the accounts receivables department in Chicago, and then in the retail store in Huntsville, AL where she retired in 1986. She was an avid reader and was rarely seen without a book (that was the best time to get a "yes" answer from her if you wanted anything). She was also a wonderful seamstress who loved to sew for her children, nieces, nephews, and her sister, who encouraged her to learn to sew. Danuta and Jozef loved to travel and took the family on many wonderful trips including yearly visits to Canada to spend time with her sister and her family. Danuta had a keen sense of humor and loved to laugh, her smile would light up a room.
Danuta was preceded in death by her husband, Jozef Limanowski; her father, Wladyslaw Michalski; her mother, Aleksandra Michalska; her brother, Tadeusz Michalski; her sister, Irene Jager; and brother-in-law, Wladyslaw Jager. She is survived by her two children, Alexandra Limanowski (Carter Johnson), Richard Limanowki, two nieces, and two nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 10 am - 11 am on Friday, October 22, 202l at Good Shepherd Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass at 11 am.
