Diana Tucker Obituary

Diana Bishop (Sprague) Tucker, 82, born on July 31, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in Hampton Cove, AL. She was the beloved daughter of Stafford Sprague and Damaris (Sanford) Sprague. Diana was raised on "Thirty Acres" in Hudson, Ohio, surrounded by family and friends, where she embraced her love for sports, particularly basketball and volleyball.

Diana's adventurous spirit led her to become one of the first women from the area to compete in international tandem kayak racing, even vying for a spot on the United States 1960 Olympic Team for women's kayaking. After graduating from Hudson High School and spending time at Ohio University, she pursued her passion for adventure by becoming a flight attendant with United Airlines, exploring the United States.  After leaving United Airlines, Diana spent four years as an executive assistant with Titus-Bladder Co. in New York City.

In 1966, Diana's life took a beautiful turn when she met Phil Tucker, a young US Navy Sailor, during his military leave in Ohio. Despite the challenges of military deployment, their love endured, and they were married on April 22, 1967. Being married to a career Navy man suited Diana, and she embraced the constant moves, forming countless friendships across Ohio, Florida, California, and Virginia. Following her husband’s retirement from Northrop Grumman in 2005, they relocated to their current residence in Hampton Cove, AL.

Diana was known for her warm and friendly nature; she never met a stranger. An avid reader, passionate sports fan, artisan, and skilled pinochle player, Diana brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered. She cherished her role as a loving wife to Phil and found joy in her relationships with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, as well as being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Diana is survived by her husband Phil Tucker; sons Duke Tucker (Tina) and Keith Tucker; daughters Leslie King (Beth Diedrich) and Kathy (Burns) Dawson (Bill); grandchildren Kelsey Tucker, Clay Tucker, Hudson Tucker, Gyllian Starnes (Bobby), Daniel McGrath (Jessi), Nick Dawson, and Julia Dawson; great-grandchildren Ethan Bell, Olivia Bell, Leah Bell, Ronin Starnes, Kai McGrath, and Wylie McGrath; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Stafford Sprague, mother Damaris Sprague, sister Meredith Krenzel, and brother Todd Sprague.

A Celebration of Life for Diana will be held in the near future; details will be shared when available.
