Hiram Bennett Holt III, 63, of Athens, Alabama passed away on July 9, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Visitation will be at 3:00pm, July 14, 2020 at Hampton Cove Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm following visitation.
Hiram was born in Port Hueneme, California to Hiram and Geraldine Holt on September 17, 1956. He travelled the world as an Navy/Air Force brat. He married Kathie McBay on July 8, 1975 in Athens, Alabama. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1974. He completed his bachelor’s degree with Southern Illinois University in 1981. He soon after completed Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. Hiram served in the Navy for twenty-one years. Upon entering civilian life, Hiram continued his work with the Navy as an independent contractor and later a civil servant. He fully retired in 2013 but found a new passion as a gunsmith.
Hiram is preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Geraldine Holt, and younger brother Alan Holt.
Hiram is survived by his wife of 45 years and love of his life, Kathie McBay Holt of Athens, Alabama. His daughter Jaclyn Booz (Daniel) and son Thomas Holt, Sr. (Heather), both of Jacksonville, Florida. His sisters Cheryl Thornton (Bill) of King George, Virginia and Missy Holt of Ardmore, Tennessee. Finally his two grandchildren who he adored, Summer and Thomas Holt, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida. He also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, other family, friends, and his Navy family. Hiram will be sorely missed by his nap buddy and furry friend Harley.
The family wishes to thank the amazing doctors and nurses of the Medical ICU at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. They provided excellent care for Hiram while he was with them.
