Obituary

Jewell M. "Cookie" Stanley, a beloved mother, grandmother, and community member, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023, in Lacey's Spring, Alabama. Born on August 8, 1942, in Russellville, Alabama to Reverend Robert L. Melvin and Mary Savannah Mullican Melvin, Cookie was a pillar of strength, love, and faith throughout her 81 years of life.

Cookie attended Birmingham Southern College, where she honed her skills and abilities that would later contribute to her professional success. She was one of the original founders and owner of Rocket City Drywall and Supply, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and hard work. Her business acumen was only paralleled by her commitment to the community, evidenced by her active membership in Farley Community Fellowship Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Cookie was known for her loving, faith-filled, and gentle nature. She was a woman who wore her heart on her sleeve, giving love and kindness to everyone she met. Her faith was a beacon that guided her throughout her life, providing her with the strength and courage to face any challenges that came her way. Her gentle demeanor was a source of comfort to those around her, making her an individual who was easy to love and hard to forget.

Cookie is survived by her loving daughter, Belinda S. (Mark) Tasaico of Lacey's Spring. She was also a cherished grandmother to Lorrie (Stuart) Adams of Huntsville, Dustin (Lacey) Hodde of Madison, Alana (Randell) Black of Lacey's Spring, and Keona Hodde of Jacksonville, Florida. Cookie was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, who will carry her legacy forward. Her family was the joy of her life, and she was the heart of theirs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Stanley, marking the end of a love story that was nothing short of extraordinary. Cookie was also predeceased by her parents, Reverend Robert L. Melvin and Mary Savannah Mullican Melvin, and her brothers, Thomas Wilburn "Buck" Melvin and Jackson Morrell "Jim" Melvin. Though their physical presence is no longer with us, their love and memories continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

Cookie's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and perseverance. She was a woman of substance who lived her life with grace and dignity. Even in death, her spirit continues to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Cookie Stanley’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, she is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

As we bid farewell to Jewell M. "Cookie" Stanley, we celebrate a life well-lived, a love well-shared, and a faith well-practiced. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, guiding us towards a life filled with love, faith, and kindness, just as she lived hers.
