Judy Kunter Obituary

It is with great respect and love that we announce the passing of Judy Elaine Sowell Kunter on 27 February 2024. Judy was born on 2 August 1943 and lived as a beloved mother, military wife, friend, and cherished member of our community. She lived a life that was full of love, devotion, and service to her country, family, and friends.

As a military wife, she loved her country and was proud to be a lifelong member of the military family. She instilled that same sense of patriotism in her family and was always quick to remind them of the sacrifices made by those who served.

She cherished the relationships she had with her family and valued family time more than anything. She was always there to offer a listening ear, a warm embrace, and a kind word of encouragement. Throughout her life, she was a private and loving confidant and friend to all her children’s and grandchildren's friends.

Above all, she loved being recognized as "Grammy". Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was always there to offer a helping hand, a word of wisdom, or a listening ear. Her love and devotion to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Mickey Allen Kunter, her daughter, Christine Elaine Kimbrough, and her parents, Lloyd “Pappa” and Georgia Mae “Nanna” Sowell. She is survived by sons Glen Kunter of Huntsville, Alabama and Dave Murphy (Morri) of Guntersville, Alabama, brother Tim (Lynda) Sowell of Versailles, Kentucky, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-grand son on the way.

Judy grew up loving the beach and that is where she fell in love with her husband, Mickey. En lieu of a formal service, Grammy requested her family gather to remember her and the wonderful life she shared with them. Together, her family will spread both her and Mickey’s ashes in the ocean so that they can travel the world and continue to be a part of family vacations.

Although she may no longer be with us, her legacy of love, devotion, and service will live on in the hearts of her family and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Grammy.
