Richard Earl Brown, 77, passed away January 29th, 2020 at Diversicare in Arab with his loving family by his side. Memorial Services will be held Saturday February 1st, 2020 at 5:00 pm at Hampton Cove Funeral Home and Crematory. Andy John King will speak at the memorial service.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Jane Brown; and his brother Wesley Brown.
Mr. Brown was born and raised in Libby, Montana where he lived until 1962. In 1962, he moved south to Alabama where he made his living selling cars in the Decatur/Athens area.
In his spare time, Richard was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always talking about his catch or how he managed to kill the biggest buck in the woods.
After he moved into the nursing home, Richard enjoyed planting vegetables and flowers to watch them grow. His favorites were peppers and tomatoes. He enjoyed spending time outside “suntanning” and watching his tomatoes grow.
Richard was a very stubborn man and hated to be cooped up in the nursing home, so he loved it when his daughter Wendy broke him out of the place. Wendy would take him on day trips to Waffle House, where he loved to order breakfast! He was so stubborn that when Wendy broke him out, it was extremely hard to get Richard to go back.
Richard is survived by his devoted daughter Wendy Cousins and her husband Rick, his granddaughters Maddie Cousins and Leanza and her husband Murray Kilmury; and his brother Cary Brown of Florida.
Friends are invited to visit with the family before the service on Saturday.
