William Smart Obituary

William Paul Smart, age 70, lost his battle with cancer and crossed over the River to be with the Lord on November 21, 2020. 

Bill was an amazing Brother, Husband, and Dad who had uncondiitional love for his wife, children, and extended family members; always placing others before himself.  He is survived by his wife, Cathy; sons, Ben and Billy; daughter, Vickie; sister, Phyllis; half-sister, Judy (Bill); nephew, Michael; great-nephews, Tyler, Nelson, David, Michael Jr., Joshua, Mark, and Matt; nieces, Deanne (Tim) and Jeanna; and great-niece, Emily.  He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother: Paul and Ann Smart; Brother, Rick, and Nephew, Troy.

Upon graduating from High School at 17 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served two years as an Infantryman (1967-1969); serving in the 2nd Bn, 26th Marine Regiment in Vietnam (1968).. After military service on the GI Bill he earned a B.S.B.A. (Finance) from the University of Central Florida (1975); and a Masters in Management from Florida Institute of Technology (2000).  Bill retired after a 43 year career in Program Management; 35 years as a Government Civilian and 8 years as a Contractor.

Over the years Bill's hobbies included scuba diving, white water rafting, caving, Civil War Reenacting; and helping his local community in Madison County youth sports and as a school booster/volunteer.

Bill elected to be cremated and buried at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, AL with a private family commemoration following.  In lieu of flowers, sentiments, or gifts, hug your loved ones, tell them you love them today and every day you have together.
